Seasons Themed Story Time

Last week the kids and I learned about the four seasons. We started story time off with our usual song, and then we opened with ‘Little Mouse, Little Mouse’.

I made the board and this was it’s second time in use. I added more things besides the mouse to find in the houses including the ever-hilarious pair of big pink underwear. The kids chanted along this time as we all shouted “Little mouse, little mouse! Are you in the (color) house!”

After the warm up game, We talked a little about the four seasons and what they are. I asked everyone’s favorite which lead into our first story about spring (my favorite season).

Bunny’s Noisy Book by Margaret Wise Brown is full of the things a little bunny hears when he wakes up early in the morning. I had the kids all make the sounds before we learned what they were which had some cute responses. 18 children all yawning and stretching dramatically is a sight to see.

After Spring, I asked about summer and we talked some about what happens then. Our book for this season was The Tall Tall Grass, a giant sized book we could all see easily.

We repeated sound effects we learned in Bunny’s Noisy Book and did some light counting before moving on to fall.

Our fall story rhymed and did a good job of calming the group down. I can’t find the title of our fall or winter book unfortunately but we had fun activities after each!

A round of Five Little Pumpkins went well and then we played a game of ‘Find the Snowball’ which was a hit for it’s first time in use.

Our craft for the day after the stories was decorating a hand fan to cool us off since fall is taking it’s time in finding us in Texas.

Overall it went well and we all had a blast!
